Background
Vinod qualified from University of Kerala, India in 1989. He completed his Masters in General Surgery (MS) from University of Kerala, India in 1992 and passed the FRCS in 1996. He then completed the six year higher surgical specialist training on the All Wales Higher Surgical Training Scheme in July 2002 and was awarded the Inter-Collegiate FRCS (General Surgery) in September 2001. His training comprised general surgery and specialist upper gastro-intestinal surgery, as well as laparoscopic surgery. In addition, his training included upper as well as lower gastro-intestinal endoscopy.
Vinod secured the Royal College of Surgeons Traveling Fellowship to visit Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2002. He was awarded the Smith Kline Beecham Award for Best Oral Presentation at Wrexham in 1998 and also won the Best Paper Award on two occasions at the Association of Surgeons of India in 1992 and 1999.
Vinod was appointed as Consultant General and Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgeon at UHCW in September 2002 and has been the lead clinician for upper GI cancer as well as benign services since 2003. He has publications in the British Journal of Urology, British Journal of Surgery, Endocrinology, Annals of Royal College of Surgeons etc and has also written a book chapter on surgery for cancer.
Clinical interests Vinod’s main area of interest is management of both benign and malignant conditions of the oesophagus and stomach.

Laparoscopic (keyhole) treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)
